I hope these pictures managed to convince you a little. If I managed to prove you wrong, please don’t get mad at me and make the decision to leave this blog because I’m just starting. 👀

You can’t believe how ecstatic I am that you have decided to read on.

Can you feel my heartfelt bliss? 💕

Well on the other hand, if you think that Ballroom Dancing is rather a scope of activity for professionals, and it is related solely for dance championships and competitions, you’re wrong too. Regarding the Dancesport, it’s a vast area that is available for everybody, not just for professionals. There are different types of competitions and difficulty levels, including entry level events for beginners. However, if you are like me, suffocating over the thoughts of committed and competitive trainings, let’s just stick with the mingling around, only desire is to have a study life balance peers and make sure we stay darn healthy and happy together.

If at this point you have that tiny winy bit of rush to get on that voguish Ballroom floor to flaunt your suave masculinity or posh beauty but your sophisticated mind is telling you this interest is suicidal and is too hard to take up, don’t let that ‘trying to talk me out of this’ brain conquer you! I was once intimidated and almost missed the opportunity that completely changed my attitude towards life, my social life and overall well-being. Well obviously, everything needs some time and practices. It’s not like you can fly an airplane right the first time, right? It may be difficult at first as it’s something completely new for your body and brain, but eventually flying ‘cloud-by-cloud’ becomes easy and enjoyable. Same goes for dancing, all you need is that desire to start and eventually everything will fall into place. Your dance skills will progress gradually and soon you will be pampered by the rhythms!

Why Dancesport? Why Ballroom Dancing?

With the possibility that you might have gotten confused, Dancesport consists of many disciplines such as Special Olympics, Boogie Woogie, Rhythm, Hip Hop, Breaking, Latin Dances, Standard Dances and much more. Latin and Standard, that is Ballroom Dancing was coined the term “DanceSport” by the World DanceSport Federation (WDSF) when it adopted a sports-based culture and is specifically labelled as Competitive Ballroom Dancing than just Ballroom Dancing.

Nonetheless, Ballroom Dance still consists of the absolute 10 dances. Whether you are into the competitive field or you are aiming towards the recreational and sporting choice, you will still get the same ultimate benefits from participating in Ballroom Dancing.

Here’s why Ballroom Dancing is awesome.

Physical Health

1. Get In Shape and Stay Fit

‘We, university students barely have time to sleep and is always overscheduled.”

How about this simple schedule? Only 30 minutes of Ballroom Dance for five days per week?

That’s not yet the best part of Ballroom Dancing especially when doing it under Dancesport. By dancing at a more moderate intensity, you’ll find it adequate to get you fit. But wait till you attempt the vigorous potency, I need not persuade you no more by then when you are literally experiencing those dripping sweats all warmed over your heat burning body even on that short piece of basic technique practicing. For this level of intensity, all you need is a 75 minutes per week to kiss those fats goodbye and looking hot damn. Better yet, you definitely won’t be bored by those non repetitive dance figures and choreographies, distinct dance styles with different tempo, rhythms, music, expression styles and so much more! So, take up our undeniably fun dance class and start burning that extra 300 calories a day with us which in no time, you’ll realize you’re unconsciously dropping between ½-1 pound a week!

“How many actual calories will I burn?” Ballroom Dancing that is initially a low-impact aerobic activity that helps you loose weight and boost your metabolism. 200-400 calories of 30 minutes dancing is what you can achieve which, in accordance to a study in the Journal of Physiological Anthropology, is almost equivalent to running or cycling.

2. Muscle Strength and Endurance

As a millennial or Gen Z, you’d probably prefer maximum results over least effort or time. Especially with all loads of exams and assignments, how could you possibly achieve or maintain that athletic, rock-hard sexy abs? Broad sculpted back? Solid Biceps and Triceps? Ripped calves? Strong toned glutes? What if I told you, it is able to train those muscles all-at-once? Well, with Ballroom Dancing, you can. With the right coaching, techniques applied and adequate amount of training of course.

If you’ve been scrolling through some fitness channels, you’ve probably came across the term Resistance Training. You may have even seen or heard it used interchangeably with strength training. Some resistance trainings improve your strength while some train your muscular endurance, speed, agility, power or reaction times. Simply put, in any exercises that your muscles have to overcome some sort of oppositional force whether through any complementing equipment such as yoga ball, dumbbells, resistance bands or even just you own bodyweight, is resistance training.

In Ballroom Dancing, the act of dancing enhances a dancer’s muscle strength build up especially their core when they resist against their own body weight through the quick steps, lifts, twists and turns. When dancers are forced to resist their partner’s body strength, it contributes to more muscle toning. Even if you don’t have a partner and would like to double rip your muscles, don’t worry! Our coaches have got you covered, all ready to drill you inside out with their ready set of creative training methods using workout equipment that complements your dance skills, techniques and power. Besides the highly intensive dance moves, to be able to perform a whole smooth choreography, you need to ensure your muscles are capable to work hard and long without succumbing to fatigue half way. Throughout the consistent dance lessons and training, you will in time condition your muscles to a heightened level of endurance.

3. Improves Coordination, Posture and Balance

Remember the part where I told you Ballroom Dancing could train your body muscles all at once? This is because Ballroom dancing incorporates movements on all planes of motion and from all directions therefore all different body parts will need to be activated to complete the dance unlike other common workouts such as running and cycling that occur in the sagittal plane. In Ballroom dance, we not only involve the sagittal, but also the lateral and rotational plane. Therefore, it means no muscle is left behind.

Being able to incorporate movements of all different planes of motion requires substantial coordination of body parts and with better coordination and control of our own body, we then eventually increase our posture and balance.

4. Increase Flexibility and Agility

Imagine all those all-direction splits and leg raises in the air, how could your flexibility not be at top class?

I’m kidding. You do not need to be able to do all those or push yourself until you literally split to join Ballroom Dancing. It is an extra credit though if you are able to perform all these spectacular moves. Anyway, let’s start with the stretches. A reputable Ballroom Dance lesson typically involves certain amount or degree of stretching to enable you to execute dance steps with comfort and ease and, especially to protect you against any dance-related injury. While these small stretches may not sound too significant, but in time as your flexibility increases, you will realize the impact it has on more difficult moves. As you work your way up, who knows? Your legs may be in parallel with the floor or walls sooner than you think. As you gain ground with certain amount of degree of flexibility, you will realize how quickly and easily you could just move around even with complexed movements.

Mental Health

5. Boosts Cognitive Performance

In the pursuit of studies and even preparing yourself towards future employment, cognitive performance is highly important whether for distinct grades or to impress your future boss. Through Ballroom Dancing, you constantly challenge your brain and thus enhances your alertness, awareness, focus, memory and concentration. Studies have even found that the areas of the brain that controls skills such as planning and organizing, can also be improved with dancing. Through Ballroom Dancing, you will need to fully focus on both the constant changing of movements and recalling moves and patterns in which keeps exercising your brain on consistent structuring or restructuring. The brain power needed for you to access for dance is extraordinary all thanks to the additional benefits of Ballroom Dancing on mind and body connection. Your body has to listen and respond to all instructions your mind is demanding and even doubled up once the rhythm and music is in presence. When you continually work your brain in constructing connection between synapses to create a faster output time, you can make better, quicker and more accurate decisions and responses after each practice.

‘Who wouldn’t feel super confident and attractive when you are feeling energetically healthy and great in shape?
